Muharram a month sacred.

Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve
[lunar] months in the register of Allah [from] the
day He created the heavens and the earth; of these,
four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do
not wrong yourselves during them. And fight
against the disbelievers collectively as they fight
against you collectively. And know that Allah is
with the righteous [who fear Him].
(Surah At-Tawbah:36)
From out of the four sacred months, Muharram has
been blessed with certain specific virtues:-
Abu Bakr reported that (in the Farewell Address)
Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) said:
Time has completed a cycle and come to the state
of the day when Allah created the heavens and the
earth. The year is constituted of twelve months, of
which four are sacred; three of them consecutive,
viz. Dhu'l-Qa'da, Dhu'l- Hijja and Muharram, and
also Rajab….
(Sahih Muslim, Book #016, Hadith #4160)
Prophet (PBUH) was asked about fasting on the
day of 'Ashura (10th of Muharram), whereupon be
said:
“It expiates the sins of the preceding year.”
(Sahih Muslim, Book #006, Hadith #2603)
Narrated Ibn Abbas: When the Prophet arrived at
Medina, the Jews were observing the fast on
'Ashura' (10th of Muharram) and they said, "This
is the day when Moses became victorious over
Pharaoh," On that, the Prophet said to his
companions, "You (Muslims) have more right to
celebrate Moses' victory than they have, so
observe the fast on this day." (Sahih Al Bukhari,
Book #60, Hadith #202)
Narrated Ibn 'Umar: Fasting was observed on the
day of 'Ashura' (i.e. 10th of Muharram) by the
people of the Pre-lslamic Period. But when (the
order of compulsory fasting) in the month of
Ramadan was revealed, the Prophet said, "It is up
to one to fast on it (i.e. day of 'Ashura') or not."
(Sahih Al Bukhari, Book #60, Hadith #28)
Prophet (PBUH) gave the option to fast, so dear
brothers and sisters, we will take advantage of this
sacred month, In Sha Allah.
Jazak Allah Khair.
