Adhaan

✍ Assalamu Alaykum my brothers and sisters in Islam

*Praise be to Allah the Almighty. Second Fiqhu message of the day is on Adhaan (Call To Prayer)*

The "Adhaan" is a call to inform others in specific words that the time for a particular prayer has begun. It is a call to the congregation and is an expression of the Islamic practice. It is required as an act for all the Obligatory Prayers.

*The Virtues of Adhaan*

The greatness of the virtue which Islam attaches to the "Adhaan" and the one who performs it i.e. the "Muadhin", can be noted from the following verse of the Holy Qur'an:“ Who is better in speech than one who calls (the people) to allah and works righteousness” (Qur'an 41:33).

The mother of the faithful, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) confirmed that this verse concerns and refers to the Muadhin and was revealed on no other reason than for the Muadhin.

And, from the prophetic traditions, Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him), said:“ If the people knew the reward in the Adhaan and the first row of the prayer and that they could not get it (the reward) save by drawing lots, they would draw lots” (Narrated by Imam Bukhari).

And, in another saying the Prophet (peace be upon him), said:“ The Muadhins will on the Day of Judgement have the longest necks (reflecting their exclusive eminence)” (Reported by Imam Muslim). Allahu Akbar!

*How the Adhaan is performed*

Preferably, there should be an appointed Muadhin at each Mosque who will call the people to prayer when the time of a particular prayer is due. In performing the Adhaan, the Muadhin would stand facing the direction of the "Qiblah" (the sacred mosque in Makkah). He would then raise both hands up to his ears and say in a loud voice the following words:

1. *ALLAHU AKBAR* - Allah is the greatest (to be repeated 4 times).

2. *ASH-HADU ANLA ILAHA ILLALLAAH* - I testify that there is no god but Allah. (to be repeated 2 times).

3. *ASH-HADU ANNA MUHAMMADAN RASUULULLAAH* - I testify that Muhammad is Allah's messenger. (to be repeated 2 times).

4. *HAYYAA LAS SALAAT* - Come fast to prayer. (to be repeated 2 times). The Muadhin, when reciting this turns the face slightly to the right side.

5. *HAYYAA LAL FALAAH* - Come fast to success. (to be repeated 2 times). The Muadhin, when reciting this turns the face slightly to the left side.

6. *ALLAHU AKBAR* -Allah is the greatest. (to be repeated 2 times).

7. *LAA ILAHA ILLALLAAH* - There is no god but Allah. (to be recited once).

*Note:* In the Adhaan, for the Fajr (Dawn) prayer, the following words are recited twice after *Hayya'alal Falaah: ASSALATU KHEIRUM MINA NAWM* , (to be recited two times) which means - " Salaat is better than sleep ".

*What Someone Supplicates Upon Hearing the Adhaan*

It is preferred practice that when a person hears the Adhaan, he should repeat the words the Muadhin calls out, except, when he says *"Haaya alal Salaat and Hayya alal Falaah"*, the listener should instead say: *LA HOWLA WALA QUWATA ILA BILLAH* which means, "There is no power and strength except by Allah".

*The Supplication after the Adhaan*

Upon the completion of the Adhaan, it is recommended that the listener recite the following supplication: _*ALLAHUMMA RABBA HADHIHID DA'WATI - TAMMAH, WASALATIL QA'IMAH, ATI MUHAMMADAN AL WASILATA WAL FADHILATA, - WAAB'ATHUHU MAQAMUM MAH- MUDAN-ALLADHII WAAD TAHU*_. which means: "O Allah, Lord of this complete call and of the prayer to be held, grant Muhammad the most favored and excellent position in the Paradise and raise him to the praise worthy place that You have promised him".

_It is highly recommended to recite the above supplication at the end of every Adhaan and in this regard the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:“ It becomes obligatory upon me to intercede for him (person reciting the supplication) on the Day of Judgement” (Reported by Imam Bukhari)._

Don't forget to share this as much as possible to share in on the reward and to also inspire an amazing sunnah revival.

ABEL or HABIL

Islamic name of Abel is Habil. Habil was the first child from the lineage of Adam عليه السلامand Hawwa (Eve) عليه السلام, who were the first pair on the face of the earth. Later Hawwaعليه السلام gave birth to a second set of twins, Habil and his sister. The other twin were were Qabil and his sister. The family enjoyed the bounties and fruits of the earth provided by their Lord. The children grew up to be strong and healthy young adults. Qabil tilled the land while Habil raised cattle.

Qur’an

And recite to them the story of Adam's two sons [Habil and Qabil], in truth, when they both offered a sacrifice [to Allah ], and it was accepted from one of them but was not accepted from the other. Said [the latter], "I will surely kill you." Said [the former], "Indeed, Allah only accepts from the righteous [who fear Him]. If you should raise your hand against me to kill me - I shall not raise my hand against you to kill you. Indeed, I fear Allah , Lord of the worlds. Indeed I want you to obtain [thereby] my sin and your sin so you will be among the companions of the Fire. And that is the recompense of wrongdoers." And his soul permitted to him the murder of his brother, so he killed him and became among the losers. Then Allah sent a crow searching in the ground to show him how to hide the disgrace of his brother. He said, "O woe to me! Have I failed to be like this crow and hide the body of my brother?" And he became of the regretful. Quran Surah Maidah 5:27-31[2]

Tafseer ibn Katheer on the story of Habil and Qabil

Abu Ja`far Al-Baqir mentioned that Adamعليه السلامwas present there when they offered their sacrifices. After Abel's sacrifice was accepted, Cain said to his father, Adam: "It was accepted only from him because you invoked Allah for his sake." And, he secretly intended something against his brother. One day, Abel was late and Adam sent Cain to look for him. The two brothers met and Cain said: "Your sacrifice was accepted and mine was not." Abel said: "{Verily, Allah accepts only from those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious)}." Cain got angry and hit his brother with an iron rod and Abel fell dead at once.

It was said: Cain killed Abel by throwing a rock at his head while he was asleep. It was also said: Cain choked Abel violently and bit him to death as beasts do. However, Abel's saying when Cain threatened to kill him: {If you do stretch your hand against me to kill me, I shall never stretch my hand against you to kill you: for I fear Allah, the Lord of the" Alamin (mankind, jinn, and all that exists)} Qur’an Surah Ma'idah, 28) indicated his good morals and ethics, his fear from Allah, and perfect piety that he may harm his brother, in contrast with the odious deed intended by his brother, Cain. For this, Abu Bakrah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (Peace be upon him) as saying: "'When two Muslims confront each other and the one amongst them attacks his brother with a weapon, both of them get into Hell-Fire.' He (Ahnaf, one of the sub-narrators) said: 'I said, or it was said: Messenger of Allah! It may be the case of one who kills, but what about the slain (why he would be put in Hell-Fire)?' Thereupon, he (Peace be upon him) said: 'He also intended to kill his companion. "

Allah the Almighty says: {Verily, I intend to let you draw my sin (on yourself) as well as yours, then you will be one of the denizens of the Fire; and that is the recompense of the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)}.  Qur’an suarh Ma'idah, 29 i.e. I do not intend to fight against you though I am myself far stronger and tougher than you are, but you will {draw my sin on yourself as well as yours}, i.e. you will bear the sin of murdering me along with your previous sins

On the authority of Sa'd Ibn Abu Waqqas his statement upon the ordeal of `Uthman Ibn `Affan that reads: I testify that Allah's Messenger (Peace be upon him) said: "There will be soon a period of turmoil in which the one who sits will be better than one who stands and the one who stands will be better than one who walks and the one who walks will be better than one who runs.Someone said: 'Allah's Messenger! What is your opinion if someone entered my home and stretched his hand to kill me?' Allah's Messenger (Peace be upon him) said: 'Be just like the son of Adam (Abel)."Narrated by Ibn Mardwiyah after Hudhaifah Ibn Al- Yaman in another wording as saying: "Be just like the best of Adam's two sons." Classed as sahih by sheikh Albani in Sunan Abi Dawud 4257

Imam Ahmed transmitted after Mu`awiyah and Waki` their saying: We were told by Al- A ` mash on the authority of `Abdullah Ibn Murrah after Masruq after `Abdullah Ibn Mas`ud (May Allah be pleased with him) as saying: The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said, "None (no human being) is killed or murdered (unjustly), but a part of responsibility for the crime is laid on the first son of Adam who invented the tradition of killing (murdering on earth). " (Ahmed's Musnad) [3]

Qabil‘s Jealousy of Habil

Allah commanded that each son offer a sacrifice, and he whose offering was accepted would have right on his side. Habil offered his best camel while Qabil offered his worst grain. His sacrifice was not accepted by Allah. This enraged Qabil. He said to his brother: “I will kill you! I refuse to see you happy while I remain unhappy!”

The First Murder on Earth

“So the self  (base desires) of the other (latter one) encouraged him and made fair seeming to him the murder of his brother; he murdered him and became one of the losers.” Quran Suarh Maidah 5:30

Prophet Muhammad(S) informed us that Cain became angry and hit his brother over the head with a piece of iron.  It was also said in another narration that Cain hit Abel over the head while he was sleeping.

“God sent a crow who scratched the ground to show him to hide the dead body of his brother.  He (the murderer) said: ‘Woe to me! Am I not even able to be as this crow and to hide the dead body of my brother?’  Then he became one of those who regretted.” Quran Suarh Maidah 5:31

Adam عليه السلامwas devastated; he had lost both his first and second born sons.  One had been murdered; the other was won over by mankind’s greatest enemy – Satan.  Patiently, Adam عليه السلامprayed for his son, and continued to care for the earth.  He taught his many children and grandchildren about God.  He told them of his own encounter with Satan and advised them to beware of Satan’s tricks and schemes.  Years and years passed, and  Adam عليه السلامgrew old and his children spread out across the earth.

Narrated `Abdullah(R):Allah's Messenger () said, "Whenever a person is murdered unjustly, there is a share from the burden of the crime on the first son of Adam for he was the first to start the tradition of murdering." Sahih al-Bukhari 3335 (Vol. 4: 552) and 6867 (Vol. 9:6)[4]

It was narrated concerning them, as quoted by more than one of the earlier and later scholars, that Allah prescribed that Adam (peace be upon him) should marry his daughters to his sons as a matter of necessity. But they said: A male and female were born from each pregnancy, so he would marry the female from one pregnancy to the male from another. The sister of Habeel was ugly and the sister of Qabeel was beautiful. Qabeel wanted to keep her for himself and not give her to his brother, but Adam insisted that they should offer sacrifices and whichever brother’s sacrifice was accepted by Allah would win her hand. So they offered sacrifices and it was accepted from Habeel but it was not accepted from Qabeel. And their story was told by Allah in His Book. Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 3/82

Ibn Abi Haatim narrated: It was forbidden for a woman to marry her twin brother, and he was commanded to give her in marriage to a brother from another pregnancy. And from each pregnancy one boy and one girl were born. Whilst they were like that, a beautiful girl was born to him, and another was born who was ugly. The twin brother of the ugly one said to his brother: Give me your twin sister in marriage and I will give you my twon sister in marriage. He said: I have more right to my twin sister. So they offered sacrifices, and the sacrifice of the one who offered a ram was accepted but the sacrifice of the one who offered crops was not accepted, so he killed him. Ibn Katheer (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Its isnaad is jayyid. Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 3/83, Tafseer Ibn Jeeri, 10/206; Tafseer al-Baghawi, 3/41; Tafseer al-Tha‘labi, p. 732; al-Jaami‘ li Ahkaam al-Qur’aan, 6/134; Zaad al-Maseer, 2/332; al-Bidaayah wa’l-Nihaayah, 1/103

ABD-UR-RAHMAAN IBN 'AWF (MAY ALLAH BE PLEASED WITH HIM)

Abd-ur-Rahmaan ibn 'Awf in addition to being one of the ten companions(al-asharatu-l mubashshirin)who were given the glad tidings of Paradise during their lifetimes by Prophet Muhammad  صلى الله عليه وسلم and was also one of the first eight companions to embrace Islam and one of the five companions who entered into Islam on the hands of Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq. He also immigrated to Ethiopia (in order to escape the persecution of the disbelievers in Makkah) and afterwards to Madina. And Abd-ur-Rahman ibn 'Awf fought alongside the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him in all of the battles including the Battle of Badr and the Battle of Uhud.

Brief biography

He was one of the six persons chosen by Umar to form the council of shura to choose the Khalifah after his death. His name in Jahiliyyah days was Abu Amr. But when he accepted Islam the noble Prophet called him Abdur-Rahman - the servant of the Beneficent God. Abdur-Rahman distinguished himself in both the battles of Badr and Uhud, suffering more than twenty wounds at the latter.

Starting with nothing, he went on to enjoy tremendous success as a merchant, becoming the richest of the Companions. From his great wealth, Abdur-Rahman financed the Muslim armies, contributed to the upkeep of the family of Mohammed after the prophet's death and was universally renowned for his fabulous generosity.

‘Abdul-Rahman bin ‘Awf was one of the elite and chosen Companions as regards to truthfulness of belief, sincerity of the creed, fighting in the way of Allah and spending for the sake of Him. He was a religious scholar, and the Companions (R) used to believe what he narrated from Allah’s Messenger (SAW). He had a profound religious knowledge and was a gifted teacher. He feared Allah much, even though he was one of the ten who was given the glad tidings of Paradise. He was present in all the battles. On the day of Uhud, when the Muslims fled except a few warriors, he was among those who remained to defend Allah’s Messenger (SAW). He was generous and openhanded without worrying about poverty. Even an ayath was revealed for him(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:262). He earned his wealth as a trader. He supported the Mothers of the believers a lot. Once Aisha (R) said: “May Allah the Almighty give ‘Abdul-Rahman bin ‘Awf from the sweet waters of Salsabil inParadise.” His wealth increased due to the fact that: “Giving charity purifies, and augments the wealth of the giver.” He used to rely on Allah first, and then his own efforts. Muhammad (SAW) said that he was one of the most excellent Muslims. [2]

The Virtues Of Abd-Ur-Rahmaan Ibn 'Awf

From the virtues of Abd-ur-Rahmaan ibn 'Awf is that the Prophet peace be upon him prayed behind him during one of his travels. Additionally, Abd-ur-Rahmaan used to spend generously in the cause of Allah so much so that he once freed thirty-one slaves in one day.

In a hadith narrated upon the authority of Anas ibn Maalik (May Allah be pleased with him) who said:

"Abd-ur-Rahmaan ibn Awf came (from Makkah to Medina) and the Prophet peace be upon him made a bond of brotherhood between him and Sa'd ibn Ar-Rabi' Al-Ansaari. Al-Ansaari had two wives, so he suggested that Abd-ur-Rahmaan take half of his wives and property. Abd-ur-Rahmaan replied: 'May Allah bless you with your wives and property. Kindly show me the market.' So Abd-ur-Rahmaan went to the market and gained (through bargaining) some dried yogurt and some butter. After a few days the Prophet peace be upon him saw Abd-ur-Rahmaan with some yellow stains on his clothes and asked him: 'What is that, O Abd-ur-Rahmaan?' He replied: 'I have married an Ansaari woman.' The Prophet asked: 'How much Mahr (dowry) did you give her?' He replied: 'The weight of one (date) stone of gold.' The Prophet said: 'Offer a banquet, even with one sheep.'"

In another hadith, narrated upon the authority of Abd-ur-Rahmaan ibn 'Awf (May Allah be pleased with him) who said:

"Abu Bakr is in Paradise, and 'Umar is in Paradise, and 'Uthmaan is in Paradise, and 'Ali is in Paradise, and Talha is in Paradise, and Az-Zubair is in Paradise, and Abd-ur-Rahmaan ibn 'Auf is in Paradise, and Sa'eed ibn Abee Waqqaas is in Paradise, and Sa'eed ibn Zaid is in Paradise, and Abu 'Ubaidah ibn Al-Jarraah is in Paradise."

And in another hadith, narrated upon the authority of Abu Salama ibn Abd-ur-Rahmaan (May Allah be pleased with him) who said:

Abd-ur-Rahmaan ibn 'Awf bequeathed a garden to the (wives of the Prophet) Mothers of the Believers that was sold for four hundred thousand. [3]

ABD

The word 'Abd' means the subdued or submission. This meaning encompasses all the types of creation, higher and lower, rational and reasonless, animate and inanimate, dynamic and static, apparent and hidden, believing and disbelieving, and pious and sinning etc.. All of them are the creation of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic. They are subjected to Him, controlled and managed by Him alone. The Arabic word ‘Abd ’ is translated in english as slave.
And if the intended sense is the worshipper, the one who loves Allaah, the one who is humble, then it refers only to the believing men and women who are Allaah's honourable slaves and those who are close to Him, who fear Him and have piety, they the ones who shall not fear, nor shall they grieve.

Quran

All of them have a limit and destination and each one runs (its course) for an appointed term and does not exceed that term by an atoms worth, “Such is the judgment of the Mighty, the all-Knowing” Qur’an Surah Yasin36: 38

And when My slaves ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided. Qur’an SurahBaqrah 2:186

And of the people is he who sells himself, seeking means to the approval of Allah. And Allah is kind to [His] slaves. Qur’an Surah Baqrah 2:207

So if they argue with you, say, "I have submitted myself to Allah [in Islam], and [so have] those who follow me." And say to those who were given the Scripture and [to] the unlearned, "Have you submitted yourselves?" And if they submit [in Islam], they are rightly guided; but if they turn away - then upon you is only the [duty of] notification. And Allah is Seeing of [His] slaves Qur’an Surah A’le Imran 3:20

Musa (Moses) said to his people: "Seek help in Allah and be patient. Verily, the earth is Allah's. He gives it as a heritage to whom He will of His slaves, and the (blessed) end is for the Muttaqun Qur’an Surah Araf 7:128

Verily, those whom you call upon besides Allah are slaves like you. So call upon them and let them answer you if you are truthful. Qur’an Surah Araf 7:194

Declare (O Muhammad SAW) unto My slaves, that truly, I am the Oft-Forgiving, the Most-Merciful. Qur’an Surah Hijr 15:49

Say: "Sufficient is Allah for a witness between me and you. Verily! He is the All-Knower, the All-Seer of His slaves."Qur’an SurahIsra 17:96

Hadith

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "When Allaah wills good for His slave, He hastens his punishment in this world, and when He wills bad for His slave, He withholds his sins until he comes with them on the Day of Resurrection."   Sunan al-Tirmidhi, 2396; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah has one hundred parts of mercy, of which He sent down one between the jinn, mankind, the animals and the insects, by means of which they are compassionate and merciful to one another, and by means of which wild animals are kind to their offspring. And Allah has kept back ninety-nine parts of mercy with which to be merciful to His slaves of the Day of Resurrection.” Sahih Muslim, al-Tawbah, 6908

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah(R) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whosoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him. My slave draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My slave continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him. When I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him, and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it. I do not hesitate about anything as much as I hesitate about [seizing] the soul of My faithful servant: he hates death and I hate hurting him." Sahih al-Bukhari, 6502

This hadeeth qudsi includes a number of benefits of Allaah’s love for His slave:
1.      "I am his hearing with which he hears" i.e., he does not listen to anything but that which Allaah loves.
2.      "his seeing with which he sees" i.e., he does not see anything but that which Allaah loves.
3.      "his hand with which he strikes" i.e., he does not do anything with his hand but that which Allaah loves.
4.      "and his foot with which he walks" i.e., he does not go towards anything but that which Allaah loves.
5.      "Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him" i.e., his du’aa’s (supplications) are heard and his requests are granted.
6.      "And were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it" i.e., he is protected by Allaah from all things…

First and foremost obligation upon the slaves

The first obligation upon the slaves is to have recognition of the purpose for which Allaah created them; and for which He took a covenant from them and the purpose for which He sent them His Messengers and revealed His Books; and for which He created this present life, the Hereafter, Paradise and Hell-fire; and for which the Inevitable would come true; and the Event would befall; and for which the Scales are set up and the Records fly; and for which there would be either happiness or misery; and according to which the lights would be divided: “And whoever Allaah gives not light, there will be no light for him” (an-Noor: 40)

5 PILLARS OF ISLAM OR PILLARS OF ISLAM

Pillars of Islam are five and are also called as arkan-al-Islam or arkan ad-deen. Faith alone is not enough. It must be expressed and tested in action, i.e., the "five pillars of Islam", which are the manifestations of faith.
These are five basic acts in Islam, considered obligatory by every Muslim. These are summarized in the famous Hadith called as hadith E Jibreel, Sahih Al Bukhari Vol 1:7 and Sahih Al Muslim Vol 1:1 and 6.
Islam is both belief and laws, in which Allah and His Messenger have told us what is halal and what is haram, morals and good manners, acts of worship and how to interact with people, rights and duties, and scenes of the resurrection. When Allah completed this religion, He chose it to be the way of life for all of mankind until the Hour (Judgement Day) begins

Pillars of Islam
(1) The Creed ( Shahadah),
(2) Daily Prayers ( Salah ),
(3) Almsgiving ( Zakath ),
(4) Fasting during Ramadan (Sawm) and
(5) The Pilgrimage to Makkah (Hajj) at least once in a lifetime.
The Qur’aan presents them as a framework for worship and a sign of commitment to the faith . In some ahadith fasting in Ramadan is in fifth position and Hajj in fourth position.
First Pillar - Shahadah (Testimony or Creed)
The Shahadah , which is the basic creed of Islam that must be recited under oath with the specific statement: "Ashadu an la ilaha illa-llah, wa ashadu anna Muhammadur Rasulullahi", or "I bear witness that there is no Ilah(Any God) deserved to be worshipped but Allah (Glory be to Him), and I bear witness thatMuhammad is Allah’s Messenger." This testament is a foundation for all other beliefs and practices in Islam. The testimony or the creed consists of two parts ie ,
Tawheed (Allah’s Oneness)and Risalath (Prophet Muhammad’s Messengerhood). Non-Muslims wishing to revert to Islam are required to recite the creed.
The Importance of the Shahadah In Islam
To enter Islam, the Shahada plays an important role. By declaring the shahada, or testimony, is all one needs to enter Islam. It is the most important of all the five pillars of Islam. This little phrase is what separates Muslims from everyone else. Because those who state this phrase have declared their acknowledgment of Allah’s monotheism and Prophet Muhammad (May Allah honour Him and grant Him Peace) status. A person can revert to Islam by stating the Shahada with conviction. The person who accept this pledge vows that he will offer worship to the One and Only creator (Allah) and none else, and that he will lead his life, following the practice and example of Prophet Muhammad (May Allah honour Him and grant Him Peace).
It (la ilaha illa-llah) is the same message conveyed by Adam, Ibraheem (Abraham), Musa (Moses), ‘Eesa (Jesus) and finally to mankind until the Day of Resurrection by Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon them All). This testimony is the key toParadise . But there is no key except that it has ridges. If you come with the key that has the right ridges, the door will be open for you. Otherwise, it will not open for you. In order to achieve Paradise through this testimony, one must fulfill certain conditions that constitute the “right ridges” for this key statement.
Is it Enough to "Say" Shahaadah lailaha Illallaah?
The Belief in the Oneness and Uniqueness of Allah (Glory be to Him) ( Tawheed) is not enough But believing Allah (Glory be to Him) by Muhammad’s (May Allah honour Him and grant Him Peace) way is very important for every Muslim who wants to enter Paradise , Qur'an.Surah A’le Imran 3: 31,32.
Second Pillar - Salah (Prayer)
Salah or Salat (Arabic: ????) is the second of the 5 Pillars of Islam. Allah (Glory be to Him) commands: “Verily, I am Allah. There is no god but I: So serve Me (only), and establish regular prayer for My remembrance", Qur’an.Surah Ta-ha 20:14 . In Islam, Salah is a compulsory act, must be performed five times a day. Salah is intended to focus the mind on Allah (Glory be to Him), and is seen as a personal communication with him that expresses gratitude and worship. Salah is compulsory but flexibility in the specifics is allowed depending on circumstances. The prayers are recited in the Arabic language, and consist of ayath from the Qur'aan .
A Masjid is a place of worship for Muslims, often refer to it by English name, masjid. "A person, who does not desist from bad and unjust deeds after offering prayers, strays away from Allah."It is the compulsory responsibility of every Muslim to offer Salah five times a day. The timings to be strictly adhered to fall before sunrise, during midday, evening, after sunset and at night. The Salah is to be performed after doing ritual ablutions which symbolizes purification of body and soul. It is certain that the life of a true Muslim who sincerely takes the vow of truth and offers prayer five times, meticulously standing with folded hands, bowing, prostrating and sitting, thus involving oneself in a conversation with Creator, will be freed of all wrongs. The only ayath which gives an indication of five times salah is mentioned in Qur’an.Surah Taha 20:130.
The five daily prayers are obligatory (Farz) on every Muslim (Both Male and Female). We cannot just abandon the Islamic prayers. The Salah are part of our identity as Muslims. In fact, Prophet Muhammad (May Allah honour Him and grant Him Peace) has stated: (The difference) between the believer and the disbeliever is the Salah.” For this reason, many Islamic scholars say that a person who deliberately abandons the Muslim prayers, and never makes them up, is not a Muslim.
Third Pillar - Zakath (Alms Giving)
"Zakath" (Arabic: ????? zakah"alms") is the third pillar of Islam. Zakat is one of the major religious duties in Islam. Literally, zakah means to "purify". It refers to the purification of a Muslim's wealth and soul. Wealth purification denotes the mobilization of assets for the purpose of financial growth and justified distribution. Purification of the soul implies freedom from hatred, jealousy, selfishness, uneasiness and greed. Such actions can go a long way in establishing a just and crime-free society. Other Qur'anic connotations include the purification of sin . Technically, zakah is a fixed proportion collected from the surplus wealth and earnings of a Muslim. It is then distributed to prescribed beneficiaries and for the welfare as well as the infrastructure of a Muslim society in general, the list of people to whom Zakath can be given is mentioned in the Qur’an.Surah Taubah 9:60 . This contribution is made payable by a Muslim once in every lunar year (Islamic Calendar/Hijri).
Any Muslim male or female who at the end of the Hijri year is in possession of the equivalent of 85 grams of gold or more in cash or 595 grams of pure silver. The Islamic Fiqh and Research Councils, as well as Jumhur (majority) of Ulama' recommend that gold be used as the basis for the calculation of Nisab. This minimum value is termed Nisab. A Muslimmust pay his or her zakah at the minimum rate of 2.5% on the total value of 85 grams of gold. Zakah has a deep humanitarian and social-political value. This religious act prevents the hoarding of wealth and advocates solidarity amongst Muslims because excessive wealth is distributed amongst the poor. The paying of zakah also helps purify one's soul and encourages a Muslim to have gratitude towards Allah’s bounties. "Of their wealth take alms, that so thou mightiest purify and sanctify them; and invoke Allah for them. Verily! Your invocations are a source of security for them, and Allah (Glory be to Him) is All-Hearer, All-Knower." Qur’an.Surah Taubah 9:103
On the Day when that (Al-Kanz: money, gold and silver, the Zakaah of which has not been paid) will be heated in the fire of Hell and with it will be branded their foreheads, their flanks, and their backs, (and it will be said unto them:) ‘This is the treasure which you hoarded for yourselves. Now taste of what you used to hoard’”
[al-Tawbah 9:34-35]
Concealing one’s zakaah is better than paying it openly in front of people, as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“If you disclose your Sadaqaat (almsgiving), it is well; but if you conceal them and give them to the poor, that is better for you. (Allaah) will expiate you some of your sins. And Allaah is Well-Acquainted with what you do [al-Baqarah 2:271]
Fourth Pillar - Saum (Fasting)
Fasting , (Arabic: ???? Sawm), in the month of RAMADHAAN or RAMZAN is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is FARZ upon every Muslim, male and female who is sane and mature. Almighty Allah (Glory be to Him) has promised great reward for those that Fast, whilst severe punishment is in store for those that do NOT fast in the month of Ramadhaan. Fasting has many physical, moral and social benefits. However, Allah (Glory be to Him) has made fasting compulsory so that we become pious, God fearing and God conscious. Fasting in ISLAM means to stay away from EATING, DRINKING and COHABITATION from Subha Sadiq (early dawn) to sunset with a Niyyat (Intention at Heart)of fasting (ROZAH), Qur’an.Surah Baqrah 2:183 - 185 . Month of fasting ends with a daylong celebration known as Eid ul Fitr or the Festival Day.
The command of Fasting is given in Qur’an, as Allah (Glory be to Him) says: "O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Tattaquun (God-fearing).", Qur’an.Surah Baqra 2:183 . "Ramadhaan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur’aan , as a guide to mankind, also clear (signs) for guidance and judgement (between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spent it in fasting." Qur’an.Surah Baqra 2:185 . Ramadhaan, is the month in which the Qur’an was first revealed on the night of Lailat al-Qadr, Qur’an.Surah Qadr 97:1 .
The Prophet Muhammad (May Allah honour Him and grant Him Peace) said: Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking his reward from Allah (Glory be to Him) will have his past sins forgiven and whoever prays during the night of Qadr in Ramzan with faith and seeking his reward from Allah (Glory be to Him) will have his past sins forgiven. Sahih Al Bukhari Vol 3:125
Fifth Pillar - Hajj (Pilgrimage)
The Hajj (Arabic: ???) is the pilgrimage to Makkah, Saudi Arabia. It is the largest pilgrimage in the world, and is the fifth pillar of Islam, a religious duty that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by every able-bodied Muslim who can afford to do so. The Hajj is a demonstration of the solidarity of the Muslim people, and their submission to Allah (Glory be to Him). The pilgrimage occurs from the 8th to 13th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th and last month of the Islamic calendar. Every year millions of Muslims, from different countries, travel to Makkah with the purpose of undertaking the great obligation of Hajj. It is an exemplary example of equality and unity when the pilgrims gather together for Hajj. Muslims who belong to different nations, cultures, social and economical status are all dressed in two pieces of unsown cloth. All perform the same rites. There is no difference of rich and poor, all stand in front of their Lord in submission and humility. Hajj is a symbol of submission to Allah (Glory be to Him) and Muslim Unity.
Linguistically, Hajj means, 'He prepared, or betook himself, to or towards a person or towards an object of reverence, veneration, respect or honor.” In the Sharee'ah, Hajj means a specific journey to Makkah during the designated month of Dhul-Hijjah, for the performance of Hajj as an act of worship to Allah (Glory be to Him): “The Hajj is (in) the well-known month (12th month of the Islamic calendar called Dhulhijjah). So whosoever intends to perform Hajj therein by assuming Ihram, then he should not have sexual relations (with his wife), nor commit sins, nor dispute unjustly during the Hajj. And whatever you do, (be sure) Allah (Glory be to Him) knows it.” Qur’an.Surah Baqarah 2: 197. “Hajj to the House is a duty that mankind owes to Allah (Glory be to Him)for those who can afford the journey”was revealed.
Qur’an.Surah Ale Imran 3: 97. Certain conditions have to be fulfilled before Hajj becomes compulsory upon an individual. These can be enumerated as follows: (a) Islam, (b) soundness of mind, (c) puberty and (d) capability
If the Muslim does Hajj correctly, in the manner prescribed and sincerely for the sake of Allaah, it will be an expiation for his sins. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever does Hajj for the sake of Allah, and does not have sexual relations or commit sins, will come back like the day his mother bore him.” Sahih Al Bukhaari, 1819 (Vol 3:45)
Conclusion
Allah (Glory be to Him). says in the Qur’an: "And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers." Qur’an.A’le ‘Imran 3:85

In Remembrance of the Sinan Great Mosque Design

The mosques are not very unique buildings in terms of for usage, community relations or reflections of traditional and modern trends. They are significant for sanctity, mystically and figurativeness. Nevertheless, the mosques which are designed recently are not presentable in these features. There are not many examples for that. And there are too many extraordinary traditional examples especially in this historical geography (Turkey). So this situation is a little bit disappointing us.

In this context, we thought that there is no need to dome or minaret anymore for mosques buildings. We believed that it must be more than these. We have been thinking for a long time that mosque buildings can be discussing its own conditions. In this way, modern thoughts can achieve with these conditions. And also says in competition brief that “there is no competition area for the mosque” because the thing that asked for is the mosque itself. Thus, we can achieve design examples in this subject that has certain and strong rules. So we thought that we may catch the zeitgeist.

As usual, the

all mosque buildings have construction and building elements like domes, arches, minarets, atriums in certain conditions until today. So we thought that we have a chance to improve these things in this competition.

Because we believe that there is no need to mosque building elements like domes, arches and minarets. They are all not necessity in this modern age. For example, we can create high-tech roofs now, so there is no need to domes anymore or create steel-arch and we do not need old-arches anymore. And specially minarets; minarets were one of the best important invention of its age. Because people has needed to hear sounds of the call to prayer. But now, we are using public address system for it. So why we are still using minarets? In this way, we designed a just symbol for the minaret which represents the religion of Islam that is last religion in the four main world religions. And we designed skin-shell instead of a dome. Thus, we believed that we created modern dome that we called this “cloak” which represents also connections and fullness in all four main world religions. We designed that the synthesis of traditional and modern approaches.
