Fasting on the day of Ashoorah

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet  Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets and Leader of the Messengers, and upon all his family and  companions.

My dear brothers and sisters in Islam, as we all know that the first month in the Islamic Calendar is “Muharram”, so here we  will focus ourselves mainly on the virtues and the importance of fasting in this holy month,  especially the 1st-10 Days.
The month of Muharram is the first month of the Arabic year, and it is one of the four sacred  months of Allaah. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):  “Verily, the number of months with Allaah is twelve months (in a year), so was it ordained by  Allaah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are Sacred (i.e. the  1st (Muharram), the 7th (Rajab), the 11th (Dhul Qa’ada) and the 12th (Dhul Hijjah) months of  the Islamic calendar). That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein” [al-Tawbah 9:36]

The most important days in this month of Muharram are the 1st Ten days and the most important of them is the day of Aashora which is on the 10th of Muharram which will fall on the (23rd October-2015) Insha’Allah.

(This is the day on which Prophet Musa Alayhis Salaam and his followers crossed the Red Sea miraculously, and the Pharaoh was drowned in its water. This is the correct way, we should not use or see this day as a day to attribute to the killing of Hazrat Husayn (May Allah be Pleased with him) or something that is in not accordance with the Sunnah (The Prophet’s Way (Peace be Upon Him)).

We should also NOT single out this day only for fasting as the Jews were doing during the Prophet’s (pbuh) time, we should either fast one day before it or after it, that is, you can either choose between the 9th or 11th of Muharram (i.e. 22nd or 24th October) Plus the day itself which is on the 23rd October (10th of Muharram) Insha’Allah.
                                i.e 22+23 or 23+24.‎

This is evidence where the Prophet (pbuh) said: "Observe the fast of Aashora and oppose the Jews.  Fast a day before it or a day after.

So my brothers and sisters in Islam, let us as true Muslims always take the advantage of the blessed occasions and days of Islam. Let’s spare no efforts in drawing ourselves closer to Allah. In doing so, we should concern ourselves with knowing the virtuous days and occasions in Islam so as to follow our Prophet's suit (Peace be upon him) in all spheres of life.  Therefore, we should take advantage of this opportunity.  May Allah make it easy for us as we strive to please Him.  Ameen ya Rabb.
